On tour with God

"I'm in the tour group!" Chris shouted as he ran to meet his parents. He had just been promoted from the intermediate choir to the touring group of a well-known traveling boys chorus. This meant they's have a six-week tour of the United States, followed by four weeks of concerts in England! Chris was nine years old, the youngest of the twenty-four boys in the chorus. There would also be three adults making the tour.

Before Chris was accepted, the chorus director called his parents to ask if they thought it wise to let such a young boy go on tour. His parents were eager for Chris to have this wonderful opportunity, but before answering, they turned to God in prayer to seek His guidance in such an important decision. Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health, "When we wait patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs our path."Science and Health, p. 254;

With the assurance that God constantly cares for and guards all His children, Chris's parents agreed to let him join the tour, although they knew he would be the only Christian Scientist in the group. In order to go on the tour, all members were required to turn in a parent's waiver authorizing the director to obtain medical help for the boys during the tour, should he feel it necessary. Chris's parents explained, however, that they had always relied on Christian Science for Chris in every situation and asked that he be allowed to do so on the tour also. The director wanted to be cooperative but was concerned about what to do in an emergency situation. Chris's parents recognized that it would not be fair to demand special privileges in a situation that might inconvenience or endanger the other members of the chorus, but they did ask that the director telephone them collect as soon as possible in such an event, so that they and Chris could work out problem through prayer. He agreed that this would satisfy the requirements of the waiver.
