Fasting, not dieting
New diets, health spas, and health foods are becoming more and more popular. Yet one cannot gain genuine, lasting control over the body through materially based aids.
Christian Science assures us, however, that we can gain this dominion through an understanding of man's true identity as the individualized expression of God—of Principle's harmony, Soul's beauty, Life's energy. God is Spirit; therefore He creates and maintains His universe spiritually, not materially. This universe is not far-off but is the ever-present and only reality.
We get into trouble when we reason from the false premise that life is derived from and dependent on matter. Working from this basis, we focus on a physical body. We become overly concerned with what we feed it and the exercise we give it. We look to it to see how it's shaping up. Perhaps we're frustrated when the body fails to respond. Then we think we have a problem in the body. But our conclusion is faulty.
