"May I pray for you?"

It was a happy social event for most of those present. But not for one young woman. She seemed deeply troubled. As she prepared to leave early, one of her friends, a Christian Scientist who had perceived the difficulty, asked if she could help. The young woman briefly poured out her problems. "May I pray for you?" the Christian Scientist found herself asking. "Would you?" was the enthusiastic answer.

The young woman hurried on, and although the Christian Scientist had other obligations, she took time to recognize compassionately something of that individual's perfect relationship to God. She saw that man is a spiritual idea cared for and blessed by divine Love. Some days later the friend explained to the Christian Scientist that as she left the dance that night, she felt a great burden lifted from her, and that during the ensuing days the challenges confronting her greatly diminished. She wanted to know more of Christian Science.

Mrs. Eddy's writings provide a clear standard of ethics for giving Christian Science treatment. These guidelines are a protection to the practitioner. They are a protection to the patient. The proper selection of patients preserves and safeguards this scientific system of Christian healing. But the ethics of Christian Science healing do not smother our flame of love for God and man. These ethics foster and bless, support and strengthen, a growing and expanding practice of healing.
