I give deep thanks to God and Christian Science for my healing...

I give deep thanks to God and Christian Science for my healing of what appeared to be an infection of the flesh of a leg, accompanied by swelling and an inability to walk or even sit in a chair. This condition had no visible cause, but as it spread rapidly, I called on a Christian Science practitioner for treatment in Christian Science. She quickly accepted and encouraged me to also pray and study profoundly the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly for that week.

In her prayer to God she felt divine guidance as to what we should study and review. As the physical condition worsened, I required daily treatment; so we shared what came to us as important points in the lesson. She had me read citations from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. These citations had mainly to do with the fact that Spirit fills all space. Most helpful was the one from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 480), "When the substance of Spirit appears in Christian Science, the nothingness of matter is recognized."

While the condition persisted, my cheerfulness and confidence improved. I was sure I was doing the best that could be done and expected the best results. Some well-meaning relatives recommended that I visit the local hospital to see what medical doctors might call the problem and what their suggestion for cure might be. I knew in my heart that I could never submit to a material diagnosis, and I prayed that my relatives would see that I was already doing what I had most faith in. I trusted that they would understand I was doing my best with complete sincerity and energy. I explained to them my thorough reading and application of the Bible Lesson and my study and prayer with the practitioner. Soon after this, there were no more such medical recommendations, and peace and cooperation reigned.
