I thank God that I can identify myself daily with the divine,...
I thank God that I can identify myself daily with the divine, spiritual laws of being and this gives me freedom from error. As a teen-ager, I have found peace in knowing that man possesses and reflects all he needs to express his complete individuality. You do not have to fear the future as a young person when you know your purpose is to express God.
When we acknowledge our spiritual status as children of God, no belief of disease can touch us and we can demonstrate perfection. I proved these facts after experiencing intense physical pain. Study of the weekly Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly was already an important part of my daily activities; however, this physical difficulty made me strive to understand God more than ever before. Paul wrote (Phil. 4:13 ), "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." This spiritual fact, when acknowledged, brought healing.
Spiritual unfoldment of the ideas God gives is greater pleasure than anything material. We are deceived if we believe otherwise. As a teen-ager, the popular thing to do need not be the right thing. We have to make a choice, I found, but we will always win with God!
I am most grateful for protection and healing received as a result of the study of Christian Science. When I was ten years old, I fell off my bike onto an icy pavement while delivering early morning papers as a newsboy. A large truck came to an abrupt stop within inches of me. The sense of God's ever-presence almost overwhelmed me. I ran into the house to share the experience with my family.
The first verse of Hymn No. 237 from the Christian Science Hymnal stands a guiding light for all youth:
O may we be still and seek Him,
Seek with consecration whole,
Listening thus to hear the message,
Far from sense and had in Soul.
Attendance at a Christian Science Sunday School since very early childhood has brought rich rewards. A broken bone in my leg snapped back into place in a matter of an hour after an accident. This was without human aid. Winter colds have ceased to be a part of my experience. I am most grateful for all the healings received as a result of increased spiritual understanding.
Branch church membership has given me an opportunity to serve the Cause of Christian Science. Mother Church membership has increased my appreciation of the worldwide activities of Christian Science and the opportunity I have to pray daily for world peace.
Mrs. Eddy tells us in Science and Health (p. 323 ): "The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen as felt. It is the 'still, small voice' of Truth uttering itself. We are either turning away from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going up higher."
