Understanding is a wellspring of life (Prov. 16:22)
The word "understanding" here is not the word that usually expresses this thought in Hebrew. It has the further meanings of "insight" and "prudence." In the Near East wells often failed in summer, and people relied on cisterns for water. But "a wellspring of life" would be an ever-flowing water source.
Be not wise in thine own eyes (Prov. 3:7)
