Christian Science has been in our home ever since I was a small child. My mother was healed of a stomach disorder through reading the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Doctors had told her that they could do nothing further for her, and they gave her six months to live. Later she became an ardent student, and she is now a listed practitioner in The Christian Science Journal.
I have experienced and witnessed many healings through the application of Christian Science. One outstanding healing that took a long period of time and taught me valuable lessons was that of an ear condition. Before my mother knew of Christian Science, my sister and I had scarlet fever. After we recovered, the doctor said that I would always have an ear condition. There would be a discharge, and I would not be able to hear with one ear. This trouble cleared up for a number of years but then returned and the ear drained continually and was very painful.
A Christian Science practitioner was asked for treatment, and she worked very patiently with me for several months. My thought improved, but the physical condition did not yield at that time. One day it came to me that this situation was something I had to work out myself. I did not ask for help anymore. I worked constantly with the definition of "ears," given in Science and Health (p. 585): "Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding.
