God Causes Health, Not Illness
One of the spiritual truths basing all Christian Science healing is this: God alone is the cause of all existence, and if God does not cause something, man cannot really experience it. God, good, is the creative Principle of all that actually exists. In the first chapter of Genesis we read of God creating man in His own image and likeness and making His entire creation good. See Gen. 1:26, 27, 31;
When confronted by disease, one might begin by asking himself, Is God the cause of this? If God is good, He cannot cause evil, for this would mean that His power perpetuates evil instead of destroying it.
Next one might ask, Then is this sickness actually going on? Herein lies the crux of the whole problem. Physical sense testimony argues for the reality of the situation: the patient (oneself or another) is distressed, perhaps feverish and afraid. How can one say disease isn't going on? It looks and feels completely real. But on the basis that Principle, God, is good and the only cause, it cannot be true, and the seem-so should be surrendered to omnipotent Principle.
