I remember the last time, as a very small child, I attended my mother's church, before she became interested in Christian Science. I walked down the aisle with my new silk parasol high over my head and seated myself in the front row of the church, and the minister in a very kind voice assured me I would not be needing the parasol over my head while I was inside the church.

Very shortly after this experience my mother received a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. She had suffered for nine years from migraine, a stomach ailment, sciatic rheumatism, and chilblains. She accepted the book with much skepticism and wondered how one could be healed by the reading of a book when her problem was physical. But at this point my father, seeing no improvement in her condition under material medicine, had become discouraged, so he encouraged her just to read the book. She read a few pages and then said, "Well, I must say, everything I have read is surely the truth." The more she read, the more interested she became. By the time she had finished the book she noticed a great improvement, and gradually all the physical ills disappeared and she was free.

When she was in her seventies, she was able to climb a mountain, carrying her Bible and Science and Health, and read the lesson to me. Her testimonial is in The Christian Science Journal of February, 1925.
