For a period of more than twelve years I was frequently troubled with a skin infection, which the medical profession named dermatitis. I had visited various hospitals and was seen by several specialists, who were not able to make a complete cure. Whenever this trouble occurred, I had to stay away from work. The last time the infection had developed it had manifested itself all over the body. During my next visit to the doctor my wife asked him whether I would ever be cured, and his reply was, "It is in his mind."

On returning home my wife suggested that we ask for help from friends whom we knew to be Christian Scientists, although we really were not conversant with this religion. However, this assistance was very quickly and lovingly given by one of the friends, who visited our home, explained how Christian Science heals, and left a copy of the textbook Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.

I was then introduced to a Christian Science practitioner, who made me understand that as a child of God, made in His image and likeness, I was reflecting God, Mind, in every way. I could not be anything other than perfect, and was expressing perfection at all times. This fact was emphasized to my thought when I attended my first Wednesday testimony meeting in a branch church. The theme of one testimony was "perfect God, perfect man." These four words have always remained with me and have been of considerable help when a problem has arisen.
