During the period of World War II, I had a healing in Christian Science that was not only spectacular but clearly convincing. At this time there was an epidemic of sore throat, known as streptococcus throat. I came down with this condition in a very severe form. However, to tell about this healing, I need to digress somewhat and refer to two prior experiences.

When I was a young man in my early twenties and in college, it was necessary for me to return home one year in midterm to have a minor surgical operation on my throat and have my tonsils removed. Each winter my tonsils had become infected and inflamed. I did not know about Christian Science at that time. After this was done, my throat cleared up and had apparently been permanently healed.

I was a soldier in World War I and had a strong sense of purpose in that war. When World War II came, I found myself with strong prejudices about it, and was very outspoken regarding my feelings. I spoke out both in the church and outside the church. One time at a Wednesday evening testimony meeting I told how I had prayed for our soldiers during the battle of El Alamein. It was very noticeable to me that some of my friends no longer approached me, nor thanked me for my testimonies. This was very disturbing to me, and troubled me greatly. The fact that I was of German extraction in no way altered my feelings. It was at this time that the throat condition returned.
