Christian Science and the Community
Many people think the words "Christianity" and "neighborliness" mean much the same thing. The world expects practical deeds of kindness from followers of the man who composed the parable of the good Samaritan. And with reason. He preached love, humility, charitableness, and forgiveness to all men. He blessed mankind by practicing these qualities himself.
Christ Jesus placed great emphasis on his works of healing. When his credentials as the expected Messiah were questioned, he said: "Go and shew John again those things which ye do hear and see: the blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them." Matt. 11:4, 5;
Students of Christian Science judge their own worthiness as followers of the Master as he judged his own—by their deeds.
