Convincing the Skeptic
This is a skeptical age. Few people take things for granted anymore. They have to be shown.
Religion in general has been one of the chief casualties of this attitude. People are fed up with dogmatic assertions that have little relevance to everyday life. However, most of them are not basically irreligious. They simply never have encountered the scientific truth of God and man as taught in Christian Science, nor understood how a knowledge of this truth can heal, happify, and uplift their lives.
Christian Scientists do not claim to have established a private preserve in the kingdom of heaven. They have no corner on the grace of God. But thanks to Mrs. Eddy's selfless efforts, they have learned a little about the harmony and perfection of man's true spiritual identity as the reflection or expression of God, divine Love. They have in many instances seen the practical application of this knowledge heal serious illness, drug and alcohol addiction, broken homes, and difficult business problems. In other words, the student of this Science has learned from direct experience that true religion is relevant, that there is a God who can be known here and now, and that His law of unchanging harmony can be applied successfully to all human problems.
