Racial Strife Must Go
The blight of racial strife seems to die slowly—but it is dying. Progress is being made. The total irrationality of judging others by their nationality or the color of their skin is becoming evident.
But the crying need at this moment is so to accelerate the pace of this awakening that the strife-producing stigma of inferiority, ignorance, and poverty may be lifted from the lives of many once and for all. Justice and fair play must be given more than lip service if this is to be done. Hatred, hopelessness, and frustration can go only as love is practiced in fact.
Students of Christian Science, understanding the spiritual nature of man's real selfhood, should be in the forefront of those who are working for equal rights and opportunities for all. Their study of this Science has taught them an intensely practical method for harmonizing human events—a method that may seem to some abstract and visionary but that definitely has proven its value in countless instances of healing and regeneration. Christian Scientists know that the spiritual understanding which enabled Christ Jesus to heal seemingly hopeless disease and even raise the dead is not abstract philosophy. It is the applied knowledge of God, omnipotent and omniscient divine Mind, and if utilized correctly it can weigh heavily in solving urgent social problems.
