I grew up in a home where Christian Science was loved and practiced. Many instances of protection and healing give me cause for much gratitude.

Two healings stand out to me from my girlhood years, both having to do with the setting of broken bones. When I was about ten years old, while playing with a little classmate, roller-skating down a steep driveway, I landed on my arm quite hard. I found that I could not move the arm, and one place between my elbow and wrist protruded alarmingly. My friend's parents lovingly cared for me and called a Christian Science practitioner, who treated me through prayer. The pain quickly left, and I remember lying on the sofa awaiting my parents' return and feeling quite literally that "the loveliness of Love is all around" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 64). When I recall this experience, all I remember of it is that wonderful feeling of being completely surrounded by Love. My arm was set through prayer alone and knit quickly and well.

The second healing took place some ten years later. I lost my footing on the stairs and cracked my nose against the bannister. The pain was momentarily intense, and my face swelled badly. My companion helped me back up the stairs, my parents were summoned, and we immediately called a practitioner for help.
