"THERE CAME ONE RUNNING"

Mark 10:17

And now these children,
Bounding into class,
Inquire with upturned faces, shining eyes.
They'll tell you the Commandments too,
Throw in Beatitudes for good effect.
To give up trust in matter,
Learn it's not "for real"
In pleasure or in pain—
"Hey man, that's something else."
Dependence on the Christ?
"Sometimes it's not so easy, teach, ...
There's liquor, drugs, and sex. ..."

Maybe they falter; even cease
That joyous running for a while.
But one whom Truth has touched
Does not forever stay a fallow field.
Someday, when wisdom lifts the confidence of youth
Out of its transitory hopes and fears,
They will run free,
Find there's adventure, not restraint,
In that quiet "Follow me."
