The Battle for Youth's Consciousness

War is being waged against the spiritual progress of youth. The battleground is in thought. The action of young people—the rejection of evil or the embracing of it in their lives—is simply indicative that the battle is being fought and won or lost.

This warfare is not new. It is now as it was in Christ Jesus' day an effort of the carnal mind to enthrone evil. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Jesus assumed the burden of disproof by destroying sin, sickness, and death, to sight and sense." Unity of Good, pp. 46, 47; Students of Christian Science must also assume "the burden of disproof," must challenge, reverse in their own thought, every spurious suggestion that would seek to attach itself to youth.

The enemy would invade consciousness. The adversary is the belief in an evil mind, a mind separate from God, good, and it manifests itself as gross materialism, pouring hypnotic suggestions of error into unguarded thought through almost all media of communication. Wise parents, endeavoring to bring their children up in a mental climate of spiritual wholeness, should be vitally alert to the arguments bombarding the very young.
