Many years ago at the request of a sister my father agreed to try Christian Science treatment. As a result he was very quickly healed of consumption in its last stages. Doctors had stated that he had less than three months to live. Since then generations in our family have had healings through relying upon God alone. Blood poisoning, rheumatism, yellow jaundice, skin cancer, ear trouble, bilious attacks, the symptoms of scarlet fever, and other ills have been proven to be no part of the man of God's creating.
I had a complete nervous collapse at the age of thirteen after a hot, strenuous summer of hard work. I shall always remember awakening from a hideous delirium to find a sweet-faced woman sitting quietly by my bed. She was the Christian Science practitioner who had been summoned from the city at my parents' request. My recovery was so complete that in a few days I entered high school, and although I had skipped a year, my grades remained as high as ever.
Although my parents never were privileged to live in a town where there was a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, or a Christian Science Society, they never wavered in their loyalty to this blessed religion. I have happy memories of our family walking several miles to attend services in a private home.
