In the Preface to Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Some years ago I had reached a point in my life where there seemed to be no blessings and all material props had failed. I had undergone surgery twice in a five-year period for the removal of abnormal growths, and a verdict from the doctor had been that these growths would reappear. This left me in a very depressed and nervous state of mind, and the worry caused many sleepless nights.

When I had seemingly reached a low ebb, a member of my family who was studying Christian Science recommended that I have Christian Science treatment. I consented to this. I was ill in bed when I received my first treatment, but three days later found me attending the services in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and I was studying the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. The following verse from the Bible was very helpful (II Tim. 1:7): "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

Many healings followed, and many false beliefs were destroyed. I am especially grateful for the healing of the smoking habit and the loss of all desire to participate in social drinking. I am grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church. Great inspiration came while I was taking class instruction.
