No Man Is Inferior
Most people agree with the premise in the American Declaration of Independence that "all men are created equal." The reason is simple and logical. God is ever-present Mind, or Love, who has created man in His image and likeness. Because Love is perfect, man, Love's image, or Mind's idea, is perfect, and there are no gradations of perfection. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "The great truth in the Science of being, that the real man was, is, and ever shall be perfect, is incontrovertible; for if man is the image, reflection, of God, he is neither inverted nor subverted, but upright and Godlike." Science and Health, p. 200;
Impartial Love could never make one man inferior to another. All God's highest ideas are equally endowed with spiritual qualities, though each one has his own distinct spiritual individuality. Each child of God has a perfect status with his Maker. God is completely impartial.
Christian Science teaches that these truths are applicable to all human circumstances. One who is aware that all of God's children reflect infinite Love manifests this concept of impartiality in his daily life. He loves all, not as inferiors or superiors, but as equals. He judges each one on the basis of that one's true identity as an idea of Mind. When he sees a person of another color or race, he looks upon him as a brother. He mentally puts off the mortal classification that would rate him as better or worse than others and sees him as Love made him, perfect and complete. He is careful to heed Christ Jesus' admonition, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment." John 7:24; He respects the dignity of each one and accords him the courtesy and consideration due an equal.
