I am so grateful to Christian Science for the healing I had of pernicious anemia that I want the world to know of it. In this way others may learn to enjoy the same benefits that came to me and are available to everyone. Five years before the mandatory retirement age I retired from a midwestern university because of my poor health. My wife and I decided to throw cares away, bask in the warm climate of Florida, and, if possible, recover my health. The doctors said nothing could be done for me that had not already been done. One examining physician stated that only "the great Physician upstairs" could do any more.

I felt directed to a particular small duplex in Florida. There my landlord, a Christian Scientist, discovered my problem and invited me to his church. Again, I was guided to a particular practitioner. I wanted so much to be well, and I was willing to go all the way with my confidence in God. The practitioner guided my steps and my thoughts, and I reached the point of putting away all medication.

At first I became very ill. I lay quite still for ten days or more. My faith was really tried. But I continued to depend on God, to study the Lesson-Sermons found in the Christian Science Quarterly, and to pray. I studied particularly the account of Jesus' healing of the boy with the dumb spirit (see Mark 9:17-29) and Jesus' words (John 14:12), "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."

Then I began to improve and soon returned to church, went shopping, and led the normal life of a retired man. This took about two months. Then I drove my car back to Michigan from Florida. I was steadily improving. I have since been active in many ways, such as driving a thirty-six-foot bookmobile for the public library. I trimmed several thousand Christmas trees on my tree farm in the summer. After that I painted houses five days a week.

I am now a member of a branch church in my home city and a very active, well man. I am very thankful to God for my good health. I am also grateful for Christian Science, which has shown me the way of Life.
