I am wholeheartedly grateful to God, the Almighty, for the privilege of finding Christian Science when my need was greatest. I had been ill with multiple sclerosis for some time. I was no longer able to walk, and the pain was unbearable. One day a dear colleague sent me a copy of The Herald of Christian Science, German Edition, which aroused my desire to hear more about this religion. Therefore I obtained the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I soon felt that I had found something wonderful, the truth that God is good, that He is Love, and that He does not send sickness. I began to read as much as possible every day, although my eyesight was also badly affected as a result of my illness.

This book is indeed the key to the Scriptures; it teaches us to understand the Bible spiritually. Christ Jesus tells us (John 8:32), "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I now understood these words. I asked a practitioner to come and see me. She supported me through prayer with a great deal of patience. She made me understand that man is the child of God, wholly spiritual, not material.

In "the scientific statement of being" Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 468): "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." I studied that statement every day. I moved to another part of Switzerland in order not to have to speak to anyone about this illness, for I had been having many visitors. My colleagues were so concerned about me that they came to see me every day and did what was most necessary. They and all my acquaintances were firmly convinced that I would never get well or be able to walk again, since doctors consider this disease incurable. "But with God all things are possible" (Matt. 19:26).
