Christianity Is Scientific
A fair question is, May Christianity be considered to be scientific? One may ask, Are there general laws concerning Christianity? Are these laws demonstrable? A careful consideration will show that true Christianity is absolute Science.
Until Mrs. Eddy discovered Christian Science and founded her religion, the concept of Christianity as Science had been given little, if any, consideration. Her great contribution was to discern the laws inherent in the teachings of Christ Jesus and to set down the rules whereby these laws can be demonstrated with infallible results. She was not deterred by those who scoffed at her teachings. In the Christian Science textbook. Science and Health, she writes, "Sneers at the application of the word Science to Christianity cannot prevent that from being scientific which is based on divine Principle, demonstrated according to a divine given rule, and subjected to proof." Science and Health, p. 341: And proofs there have been in great number of the overcoming of sin and disease and of the solving of problems of all kinds.
The divine origin of Jesus enabled him naturally to demonstrate the Science of what he taught, but he left no specific rules for others to follow. However, he promised the coming of the Comforter, or spirit of Truth, which, he said, "will guide you into all truth" and "will shew you things to come." John 16:13; Mrs. Eddy declares this Comforter to be Divine Science. This Science, which she has given to the world, presents the spiritual interpretation of the Scriptures and gives the rules whereby Christianity can be demonstrated in overcoming error of any description.
