Two years ago I had a sudden...

Two years ago I had a sudden severe attack of ptomaine poisoning. My daughter cared for me most tenderly, and my husband helped me in Christian Science until we could get in touch with a practitioner, who then took up the work. To them all I am very grateful.

On the first night, though I was not able to think clearly, I awoke with these words from one of our hymns in my consciousness (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 221): "O Jesus, our dear Master." The second night I again awoke with the thought of Christ Jesus. In the days that followed I pondered his work for us all. I thought of him going about his daily duties whilst he still lived in his mother's home. How often he must have sat and watched her as she worked at her household tasks. The woman who put the leaven in three measures of meal (Matt. 13:33) might well have been his mother.

I saw more clearly than I ever had before the simplicity of his doctrine. Then I thought of Christian Science and saw that it has this simplicity also. I realized that our Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, was written by a highly educated woman, and although some adults at first find it obscure, a little child can read it and understand. Also the services in Churches of Christ, Scientist, are as simple as it is possible to make them and maintain their dignity and order.
