Of Good Report
Report of Joint Dedication Committee, Bergen County, New Jersey
"The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother's need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another's good." So we read on page 518 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. This truth is illustrated in the activity of the Churches of Christ, Scientist, in Bergen County, New Jersey.
In the Sentinel of March 12, 1949, there appeared in this column an account of the dedication work of these churches. It was as follows:
"In July, 1941, a representative and an alternate from each of the nine churches united to form a Joint Dedication Committee for Christian Science Churches in Bergen County. An allocation committee composed of the four representatives of the four dedicated churches was organized. This subcommittee submitted a three-part questionnaire dealing with the total cost of the church property, total indebtedness, and progress made toward dedication, to each of the five undedicated churches. The allocation committee after considering answers to this questionnaire announced to the members of the nine churches the name of the church which was nearest dedication. Contributions were then made by the member churches to the church which had been thus designated. Through the united efforts of all the churches in the county this church and three others have now achieved the goal of dedication.
"One meeting a month is held by the allocation committee, at which the chairman assigns references from the writings of Mary Baker Eddy to be read by all, with the thought of dedication uppermost. In March each branch church in the county holds an open meeting in the interests of church dedication, and every September the allocation committee holds a joint open meeting in one of the nine churches."
A recent report from this same group of churches states:
"Since 1941 the remaining five branch churches, and in addition a newly established branch church, have all been dedicated as the result of the patience, love, perseverance, and continuous metaphysical work of many faithful church members. The activity of the Joint Dedication Committee has unified the ten branches, has created within church members a desire for mutual helpfulness, and has enabled them to glimpse in a measure the true meaning of dedication."
