No Coming and Going in Mind
Today there seems to be in the world a vast amount of coming and going, individuals as well as great bodies of men and women moving under pressure of necessity from one place to another in uncertainty and ofttimes in fear. This means in the majority of cases leaving the security and assurance of home, friends, shelter, and happiness. Great comfort and reassurance come as one views this dream picture in the light of Christian Science, and realizes the ever-presence of divine Mind, which, in its own infinitude, knows no coming or going. On page 61 of "Unity of Good" Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, says, "Coming and going belong to mortal consciousness." God, divine Mind, and His ideas are continuously everywhere present, never absent. A knowledge of this truth saves from the sorrow of separation, from the uncertainty and dangers that seem to attend the coming and going of mortal consciousness.
The power of Mind is the Saviour of men. The potency of a true spiritual idea saves from the ills of a false material belief. This saving Christ, Truth, which reveals God as Spirit and man as the idea of Spirit, forever embraced in the goodness and power of his creator, did not come with the birth of Jesus nor go with his ascension. Jesus designated himself as "the way, the truth, and the life." And we read in "Unity of Good" (p. 63), "The Way, the Truth, and the Life were never absent for a moment." Later on the same page Mrs. Eddy continues, "The so-called appearing, disappearing, and reappearing of ever-presence, in whom is no variableness or shadow of turning, is the false human sense of that light which shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not."
The light of Truth then does not shine intermittently. It does not go and come, flicker out and flare up again with the "false human sense," but is ever present, steadfast, and apparent to spiritual sense, which knows and loves God. Did not Christ Jesus say, "Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world"? So the substantive, true idea, the Christ, is with us at all times, in all places, under all conditions.
