Destroying the Canaanite Pictures

Recently I saw some of the first moving pictures ever made. By comparison they emphasized the remarkable advance of this industry in the past fifty years. Pictures are mental, wholly mental. They depict thought. We go to the movies and see the thought pictures of an author, presented with the assistance of actors, directors, and mechanical technique.

But each of us is, in a way, a producer of pictures. They inhere in our thinking. The chambers of memory are alive with them— mental impressions of bygone days. Human thought also flashes before us, on the screen of consciousness pictures of possible future experiences, of things we should like or dislike, of places or persons we should, or should not, enjoy, of experiences deemed pleasant or tragic. The human mind is a prolific picture producer.

The movie industry has learned how to improve its screen pictures. Christian Science shows us how to improve our thought pictures. Not one need appear or linger that frightens, allures, or degrades. Every one can be beautiful, constructive, and worthy.
