Individual Freedom—Your Divine Right
The freedom of the individual to think his own thoughts and to live his own life has been challenged. As a consequence, the world has lined itself into opposing forces, one side attempting to make the individual the servant of the state, the other defying the right of men or governments to take from the individual his God-given heritage—freedom.
The Science of Christianity, or Christian Science, reveals what individual being is and why it is free. Its teachings also show that neither God nor freedom is fully comprehended until individual being is understood. World conditions would not be as they are today if individuals had understood their true existence; that is, their freedom could not have been taken from them as it seems to have been.
The life and works of Christ Jesus illustrate the power, freedom, perfection, and glorious possibilities of individual being because he understood his individual being to be the expression of God. He manifested the true idea of God in expressing freedom for himself and bringing to others freedom from the beliefs of sin, sickness, and death. In answer to Philip's question, "Lord, shew us the Father," Jesus said, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father." Also he said, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." Were these not statements of the fact that he understood his individual being to be the effect of that cause which he called Father?
