A few years ago I was enjoying a large degree of material stability, including a lucrative business position, when unexpectedly conditions arose which required a choice between two paths, one leading to a continuation of this business connection, and attended by sacrifice and compromise relative to my daily use of Christian Science, and the other leading to resignation from this position and necessitating a new beginning in business life.
I discussed this apparent dilemma with a Christian Science practitioner, and through the application to the problem of the truths enunciated by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, the right solution presented itself. The statement by Mrs. Eddy on page 183 of Science and Health was found particularly helpful: "Divine Mind rightly demands man's entire obedience, affection, and strength." I was also greatly helped by the sentence on page 167, "It is not wise to take a halting and half-way position or to expect to work equally with Spirit and matter, Truth and error," and by the statement with which our Leader concludes the paragraph: "Only through radical reliance on Truth can scientific healing power be realized."
This incident occurred during a so-called depression, while universal fear regarding supply was prevalent. With help in Christian Science, I found my way clear. A radical change was made in my work, and I was able to commence the practice of a profession for which I had been especially fitted. Through the help of the practitioner, and the sincere and consistent study and use of the beautiful truths contained in Mrs. Eddy's writings, I was protected from the fears that presented themselves and attempted to discourage me in this new experience. My understanding of the true business of man—the glorification of God—became established on a solid foundation through this trial, and I have found that I was indeed divinely directed and led into my right place.
