Sovereign Power

[Written Especially for Young People]

The original edifice of The Mother Church was dedicated in 1895, and on this occasion Mrs. Eddy delivered the wonderful sermon published in "Pulpit and Press." This address includes the following reassuring message (p. 3): "Know, then, that you possess sovereign power to think and act rightly, and that nothing can dispossess you of this heritage and trespass on Love."

How important it is for us all to realize the truth about this God-given "sovereign power," which is irrevocably ours, to be called on at any moment.

To those of us who are still at school or already enjoying the larger life of college, or else launched in the business world, may come many temptations. Sometimes a whispering inner voice suggests that this or that habit if moderately indulged—just one cigarette, perhaps—is not so very bad after all. Or the suggestion may come to us through our companions. In this test our love for God, good, helps us to stand firm and claim our heritage of "sovereign power to think and act rightly."
