On page 266 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...

On page 266 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read: "Would existence without personal friends be to you a blank? Then the time will come when you will be solitary, left without sympathy; but this seeming vacuum is already filled with divine Love." And on the same page she quotes, "Man's extremity is God's opportunity." This has all been proved to me, and has been a great help.

When I first took up the study of Christian Science I was suffering physically, mentally, and financially. I was several hundred miles from relatives; my home was broken up; my health was bad; I was nearly penniless, with two small children to support, the younger only six weeks old; and I was in a small town where there did not seem to be any work to do. I was soon given a position in a near-by city which gave ample supply both for my children and for me. This work was something very different from anything I had ever done, yet I was not only able to hold the position, although two experienced persons had failed in it, but was able to do more work at home and more studying than I had ever thought possible.
