It is with a deep sense of gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me that I write this account of an instantaneous healing. Paul says in the twelfth chapter of Romans, "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God;" and this transforming I have experienced.

For some time I had suffered from erysipelas of the eyes. They were discolored, dreadfully inflamed, and swollen so that I was disfigured. Intense itching caused great suffering. My friends were very much alarmed, and feared that my eyes would be seriously injured, so that I would be obliged to wear glasses. I was urged to consult a physician; but I am grateful to say I did not share their fear. I longed for a clearer understanding of the truth, which Jesus said would make us free; so I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner.

Man's unity with God, infinite Mind, was so clearly and beautifully explained to me that with but one treatment my healing was complete and instantaneous. I was reminded that Jesus had said, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God;" that this spiritual vision or understanding is gained only through purification of thought; and my attention was called to a definition given in the Glossary of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 586): "Eyes. Spiritual discernment,—not material but mental." I was also told that sight is a quality of Mind, and can never be lost or obscured. I accepted this clear explanation without doubt or argument; and I cannot express in words my heartfelt gratitude for the instantaneous healing which I experienced.
