Toward the close of his revival, according to a recent issue,...

New Castle (Ind.) Courier

Toward the close of his revival, according to a recent issue, the preacher said considerable about the ravages of sin, and then stated: "There are but two classes of people who dare not argue against sin,—Christian Scientists and fools." This statement places Christian Science in an improper light, because Christian Science not only agrees with much that he said about sin, but it goes still farther, and declares that all the sickness, disease, misery, and death the world has ever known are the results of sin (which implies ignorance of God and His law), and that Christian Scientists are engaged in a warfare against all sin.

The erroneous thought back of the statement can only be accounted for by the somewhat prevalent notion with those who have not investigated thoroughly, that Christian Science denies that sin seems real to mortals. Just the opposite is true, however, because Christian Science says that sin seems very real to misguided human consciousness, but that God has no consciousness of it, hence, the real man in God's image and likeness cannot know sin. Christian Science gives the spiritual understanding of God's word, and this destroys the seeming reality of sin and brings to human consciousness a realization of the substance of what St. Paul called the "fruit of the Spirit,"—"love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance."
