To make them good and healthy citizens, the school...

Toledo (O.) Times

To make them good and healthy citizens, the school children of this country need instruction in but one thing, right living, which includes right thinking. Frightening children with the fear of tuberculosis or any other disease would have anything but the desired result. The best physicians recognize that the most dangerous epidemic in the world is that of fear. When a physician calls on a patient his first endeavor is to establish confidence. If the physician is not trusted by the patient, his medicine will do little good. And more and more medical authorities are teaching the necessity for sanitation in cities, houses, and personal lives as the only sure preventives of disease. Any instruction likely to fill with fear the mind of a child, is harmful instruction. Any instruction calculated to teach him to take care of his body and keep his mind ventilated with good thoughts and high purposes will have good results.
