THE LECTURES
June 16, at Second Church of Christ, Scientist, the Hon. Clarence A. Buskirk delivered a lecture on Christian Science. He was introduced by Judge C. C. Foote, who spoke as follows:—
My knowledge of Christian Science and its accomplishments is rather limited, but from what I have observed, read, and experienced, I am satisfied that if everybody on earth were Christian Scientists tonight, wars would cease and strife and discord be at an end; the battleships of the seas would be anchored in the harbors of peace; the artillery stacked on the fields of liberty; the swords beaten into plowshares, and the bayonets into pruning-hooks; and the nations of the earth would learn war no more. The music of the fife and drum, the rattle of musketry and the roar of battle, would die away, and the angelic song: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men," would resound from shore to shore.
If everybody on earth were Christian Scientists tonight, corruption in private life and public trusts would not be practised; differences would be adjusted by arbitration; prisons would give up their fettered throngs; crime and suicide would curse the land no more; for all would have the Mind of Christ, and Love would fill the hearts of men. Almshouses, asylums, and homes for the friendless, would be rendered needless by the righteous distribution of God's wealth and the universal establishment of the brotherhood of man. The church would become pure and free from envy, scorn, and pride, and the earth would be filled with the knowledge of the Lord, even as the waters cover the sea.
