AMONG THE CHURCHES

BAKERSFIELD, CAL.

A pretty building of immaculate whiteness is the new Christian Science church at the corner of Seventeenth and G streets, which was occupied for the first time at the 11 o'clock service yesterday morning [July 31] by the Bakersfield Christian Science congregation. The edifice covers thirty feet of ground on G street and runs back twice as far on Seventeenth street. The whole lot is 122x132 feet in area.—Bakersfield California.

DETROIT, MICH.

Plans have been prepared for the fine new edifice to be erected for Second Church of Christ, Scientist, on the East Grand boulevard, between Jefferson avenue and Champlain street, to cost about fifty thousand dollars. The site has one hundred and fifty-two feet frontage on the boulevard, and the church will be one of the handsomest in the city. The seating capacity will be about seven hundred and fifty.

Second Church was organized only last January, and the money for the building has all been subscribed since that time, First Church aiding in raising funds. Second Church has been meeting at No. 1045 Jefferson avenue since organization, and expects to get into its new home by the first of next year.—Detroit Times.
