The Elementary Sense of Right

THE following excerpts are from a recent editorial in The Indianapolis State Sentinel:—

"Every citizen should have the right to seek the kind of treatment in which he believes for the maladies of himself and those for whom he is legally responsible. . . . Prayer has doubtless wrought as many cures as drugs. The Sentinel believes in personal liberty, and for that reason, and because it does not believe in trusts or in persecution, it says, 'Stop persecuting the Christian Scientists. They are doing good, not evil.' The Sentinel prefers a regular physician to a Christian Science healer every time. But if its neighbor prefers the Scientist, who shall say him nay? His chances to be healed are perhaps as good as The Sentinel's."

That this editorial was not written by a Christian Scientist is evident from the closing paragraph. Therefore the writer is free from any charge of bias toward Christian Science. The views expressed may be taken as representative of the desire of the American people for personal liberty in the choice of methods employed for healing disease.
