A Welcome

THE growth of Christian Science is measured not merely by increase of numbers. It is marked more distinctively by the light shed upon the darkened paths of the sick and sinning,—"the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day."

This growth in grace is the true growth, and just here is comfort for the loyal little bands that are faithfully laboring on the outposts of our great Field. While love and unity prevail in their midst, they are gathered together in His name, and though but two or three, in fulfilment of His precious promise, there is He in the midst of them.

None know better than Christian Scientists that a membership secured through proselytism is an absolute encumbrance. It is the consecration of an adherent that measures his worth, and consecration is never the outcome of coercion, of persuasion, or of a desire for popularity. It roots itself deeper,—in conscientious conviction, in self-abnegation, in love. Christian Scientists have confidence in an all-awakening, all-saving Principle, and are convinced that when Truth speaks, His own will hear His voice, even without the agency of human utterance. So they wait peacefully, but not inactively they wait with loving hearts and willing hands, ever ready to cheer the sorrowing and lift the burden of the heavy-laden.
