Christian Science not Gnosticism

Oswego (N. Y.) Palladium

Mr. Editor.

Over against the condemnation of the Rev. Mr. Jones, I wish to register my opinion, matured after some years of personal study, that "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy is a masterpiece of powerful English, and that its style is in keeping with the majestic message which it proclaims. It bears the marks of every great work, in that it possesses unity of purpose and diversity of detail. While never departing from the central Christian idea that God is Spirit, it alternates from fearless exposure of error in all its forms to the tenderest descriptions of the power of divine Love.

It is not to be denied that whosoever writes on Christian Science, as on spiritual idealism in general, encounters many difficulties, for language is a poor vehicle wherein to express spiritual perception. Much care and patience is required, therefore, in reaching even approximate precision of statement.
