Words of Appreciation
When a new Sentinel is put into my hands, I am reminded of a very hungry schoolboy, when he sits down at noon to a well-filled lunch-basket.
As usual, when the meeting was over this evening (Wednesday) I got my new Sentinel, and when I reached home, I ran over it to see first if there were a word from Mother. My eye then fell on the article entitled, "Appreciation." Even before I read it, I thought, each Sentinel seems to rebuke me for ingratitude. How have I shown my appreciation of all the good I have received? I determined that not another day should pass without a just acknowledgment at least of the untold help and comfort Christian Science has been to me.
I heard of Christian Science about five years ago, but I thought it was only for good people, and if so, it certainly was not for me. My interest in it began, however, when my sister, who had been healed, had an attack of typhoid fever, and at what is termed the most critical period in materia medica, are cabbage, cucumbers, potatoes,—in fact anything she relished,—and nothing seemed to hurt her. So I began to try to find out some of the whys and wherefores of this new faith. I received the most patient help from this sister and her healer, and as I had been a great sufferer for years, I decided after a while to take treatment. I shall never cease to feel grateful for the loving help I received, but I was so material that I did not quickly grasp the spiritual truths. My healer did her work faithfully, and I was healed of eczema of twenty-five years standing, that had baffled the skill of many physicians.
