Christ's Advent
Foretold
by prophet, seer, and bard,
By signs and portents heralded,
The true Messiah lived and bled,
Yet few there were who knew their Lord.
The true Messiah came to earth,
Not as a kingly conqueror comes
With jeweled pomp and noise of drums,
But a lone manger gave him birth.
Poor fishermen composed the band
With which he moved in humblest guise;
Nor wealth nor greatness reached his eyes,
Nor sword nor sceptre stained his hand.
