What Christian Science has done for Me
I came into Christian Science seven or eight years ago. About two or three years previous to that time, I had a very severe spell of sickness which confined me to my bed for three months, and from which I never fully recovered until I was healed by Christian Science. During that three months time, I had two operations performed. These did more harm than good, and left me in a very nervous condition. I was always afraid something was going to happen. I was afraid of storms, thieves, tramps, and everything else. I got so I could not sleep at night. I went to three different physicians of this city for medicine to produce sleep, but none of them did me any good.
Months passed, and I felt sure I would lose my mind. I could not bear to hear a person tell or read of any one who had become insane, thinking I would be the next. Finally I went to an eminent physician, who said an operation was necessary in order to produce proper results, and that if I did not have the operation performed I would never be perfectly well again.
The next day I went to still another physician, who told me the same thing, I knew I could never stand this. That night I talked the matter over with my folks, and said I believed I would try Christian Science. They did not believe in it, neither did I, but I had hopes, as we had a friend on the next street who had been healed of consumption without medicine. I also had a cousin in Illinois who had been healed by Christian Science.
