Testimony of a Commercial Traveller

Five years ago last February I weighed one hundred and twenty-four pounds and could not turn over in bed when I had lain down. I was in that condition for a year. Physicians pronounced the trouble sciatic rheumatism and said it was in the marrow of my bones, and could not be cured. I also had many other diseases.

I sent for a Christian Scientist, and after talking with him some time, and asking him about the charges, etc., he informed me that Christian Scientists generally charged one dollar per treatment, but that I need not pay one cent, as I could get the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and by studying that, with my Bible, and applying what they taught, I could heal myself, but if I would not do my own work, as in any other case, I would have to hire some one else to do it.

I had one treatment and was so benefited that I purchased Science and Health, the Christian Science Quarterly, and all other Christian Science books, and went to work. I did not resent the teachings of Christian Science, but applied them as best I could, at the same time keeping in the company of Christian Scientists. I seemed to grow out of all my diseases. In one month I considered myself well, and could walk without being lame, but I can see it has been a steady growth out of the old into the new; out of the unreal into the real.
