Watch and Pray
When
in temptation's darkest hour,
I heard the Saviour say:
"Watch when the clouds around thee lower,
Be faithful, watch, and pray."
Watch in that darkness for the dawn,
Nor yield to timid fear;
With unseen foes around thee drawn,
An unseen help is near.
When gay prosperity would lay
Her trophies at thy feet,
Be not deceived, but watch and pray,
With panoply complete.
As up the mountain path we climb,
Along the narrow way,
List for that gentle voice sublime,
Beloved, watch and pray.
