Rondeau

"In God we trust," this motto wrought
Upon our coinage, should have taught
Us all the unity of Mind,
That in our hearts its Love might bind
Our countrymen in loving thought.

At any time when needing aught,
Turned we, and other sources sought?
Why did we not recall to mind,
"In God we trust"?

Should any time our lives seem fraught
With pain, or in some tempest caught,
Should earthly friendship prove unkind,
We'll know the coin must be refined,
Then comes that Truth, though dearly bought,
"In God we trust."
