Ingratitude
There is no baser quality of the human mind than ingratitude.
Gratitude to God for His boundless goodness is a pre-requisite of Christianity. Love of God is gratitude, for love of God is obedience to Him, the acceptance of His mandates, and the carrying out of His beneficent purposes. Ingratitude, therefore, is absence of love, and absence of love may be hate.
He who turns wilfully upon a benefactor hates his benefactor. He who hates one who is doing God's work—doing good in the world and for humanity—hates God. God accomplishes His infinite purposes through His servants. To attempt to injure a faithful servant is a thrust at God Himself. What difference between hating and opposing one commissioned to execute a command, and hating and opposing the giver of the commission?
