Poems

Onward

Love led me home; by surging waves I passed; Nor turned I back until I came at last To open spaces where bright flowers grew, And verdure sparkled in the morning dew; My eyes were holden by the dawning day! I cannot dream again since I have found the way!

Our Leader

She followed where the Master led With vision clear, and faith serene; She foiled the poisoned darts of hate, And rose to heights where God is seen.

Perception

I see Thee only when I look above, Far from earth's vanities and fancied rest; I see Thee best when, bathed in living love, My grateful heart responds to Thy behest.

Obedience

Help me to always do Thy will, O Lord;Cast out of me all selfish thoughts and fears:Give me the grace to find within Thy wordThe light to guide me through this mist of tears.

Release

Time was, when my heart was breakingFor the blue firth and the heather hill,And the gold hush of a Highland autumnWhen time stands still.

The Meek

"Quiet of meekness"!* Can there be A holier, happier state than this?

Ask Not for Tomorrow

Ask not for tomorrow, Lift thine eyes today, See Love's bow of promise Span the clouds of gray.

"Desire is prayer"*

Ere dawn her saffron sails unfurled, Or timid night-wraiths fled away, The penitent looked up and cried: My Father, I would learn to pray.

Stay On

O angel messengers that bless,And gently tarry to caress,Stay sweetly long;Stay closely, lest this heart of mineShould so forget as to repineFor want of song.

Ripened Years

Christians should ripen with the passing years,Mellow and soften, sweet and tender grow,As orchard fruitage mellows on the bough,When autumn breezes laden branches blow.

The Mind of Christ

Give us the Mind of Christ that weShall, like the Man of Galilee,Reflect Thy goodness all complete.
