Watch, Work, Pray

Ask the gardener, he will tell youThat he reaps but what he sows; That the soil must be in order,Or the seed is dwarfed by foes; That the tares in good soil prosperAs the seed that aims to bless; That the good kind, he must nourish,Guard its growth with tenderness;True discernment is most needful—Sprouts bespeak the ripen'd fruit; That with prudence he must severBaneful waste from worthy root.

To-day

I do not mean to pass this dayIn stupid sense of ease,To smile on evil, fawn on fear—Thus mortal mind to please.

From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

The Point of View

A little song bird came my way,Once on a sunny summer day,And sang to me of love; But presently the song bird went,And I was filled with discontent,Nor saw blue skies above.

All-presence

If I could think beyond the farthest starThat lights the depths below me and above,However swift my thought, however far,I could not reach the limits of His love.

The Restoration

Dear Galilee, sweet trysting place,Blest memories of thee arise!There have I seen the Master's face;There heard his voice in glad surprise;

Faith

We Cannot always pierce the mistWhich seems to veil the Father's face; But when our hearts are heaviest,By faith, we can Love's image trace.

"For God is All-in-all"*

I cannot have sickness, for God is my health.

The Awakening

Now to hearts of men are stealingThoughts of Truth that are revealingFreedom as man's true estate;Good as pow'r and all-availing,Over evil's claims prevailing;Love and justice, meekness, mercy,Mightier far than greed and hate.
I know that God is Love and Truth and Life, —     Is All-in-all;I know a list'ning ear can always hear      Love's tender call; And when earth's path seems dark to meTruth guides, if I but lift my eyes to see;And if I listen, watch and work and pray,And strive to walk with God from day to day,I cannot fall; no matter where I goLove is before me all the way, I know.

Rejoice!

Rejoice, O troubled heart, rejoice! Know thou that God is near.

Reciprocation
