Eternal Justice

Amid the crowded clamor of the way,The noisy mart within the temple gate,—The bickering who will or will not pay,Covetousness that stalketh soon and late,The lust for gain which quickly turns to hate,Or ruthless thrusts the weaker to the wall,While some of justice make a show, and prateThat he who fell no doubt deserved the fall,—O Thou most just, upon Thy name we call!Thou holdst the balance in Thine unseen hands;Be Thou with us when foemen would enthrall.

Glad Assurance

I will be glad, I said; but in the roundOf daily trivial tasks and anxious thought—Of days with care and bitterness full fraught—Never my heart a cause for gladness found.

The Way

Thou needy, pining,Not yet diviningThy God's behest,Ne'er wilful strivingToward self-outlined arrivingCan truly gain thy rest.

Benedicite

Boundless as the vast blue skyIs the thought when lifted high;Fragrant as the spring's sweet scentIs the mind that doth repent;Nurtured as the beauteous flowerIs the life that knows Love's power;Joyous as the lark in MayIs the sense that learns the way;Peaceful as the gentlest seaIs the heart at-one with Thee.

Communion

A quiet hour at dawn of prayer and light;A day alone with Truth amid earth's throng;A silent song of triumph in the night,—Such sweet communion hours to heaven belong.

"Songs of deliverance"

Glad hymns of praise from out a dungeon's depth Burst prison bars long centuries ago, And proved the might of Mind's omnipotence, The right of joy to cast out seeming woe.

Thine and Mine

Amid the clamor of the day, In common walk or solitude, An inward song a soft prelude Enjoins, then drives all care away.

The Healer

To him who failed, one came in duty stern,Reproaching and admonishing by turn,And swift resentment caused thereby to burn.

Into the Light

The way seems dark, my Father;Cloud upon cloud seems drifting slowly o'er my headAnd loud the thunders roar about me;When lo! above these clouds of fear I see Thee stand,And hear Thee say, in voice of sweet command,"Fear not," and, "Take my hand.

Cheerfulness

Our lives are in keeping of Love divine,—What need to be downcast and fearful?
