A sign from God
Several years ago I had a prestigious job and was enjoying a comfortable lifestyle. I was also serving on various branch church committees. The future looked secure and bright. Or so I thought.
After an aggressive storm, our church sign fell down, and I volunteered to serve on the sign replacement committee. I felt that by joining with other members on this committee, I could bring my skills as a project manager to church work. Little did I know the opposite was about to happen.
The project began harmoniously enough but soon became complicated. It wasn’t long before the work bogged down because of conflicting opinions, differing designs, members joining and leaving the committee, local ordinances, building and zoning issues, regulatory requirements, special membership meetings and surveys. Really, was all of this necessary for a church sign? Our research soon revealed that signs weren’t cheap, and what we had in mind including permits, installation, design, and construction needed a budget of over $10,000.
